Playing Digger on Linux!

Anyway, I decided to venture to digger.org to see if a Linux version was available. In fact, I wanted to test this, thinking - if GNU/Linux on the desktop has really made progress, at least some GNU/Linux version should be available. And voila! Not only was there source code, there was a binary package for Ubuntu, as well as for some other distros, Red Hat I think.<br>So there I was, less than a minute away, playing the good old game which is as engaging as ever! I encourage everyone to try this out.

Utilitarian attitudes

When presenting the Robots and Maze project to people I have come across quite a few inqueries as to the usefulness of the project.
But reality is, most things I am interested in carry very little utilitarian purpose. And for years I would answer those questions by trying to justify what I do in purely practical terms. If you'd asked me 5 years ago as to why I am making "Robots and Maze", I'd say that it is a great programming challenge that can train my coding skills and algorithm construction. But I wouldn't really mean it. And today I see very little reason to hide a simple fact from people - that a person can do something simply because he finds it interesting or even fascinating.

The pressure from utilitarian approach to life exists nevertheless. Several times while working on maze algorithms, I caught myself feeling guilty for "wasting time". The only reason I get no such feeling when I am doing music is probably because in our society music is considered "useful".

Of course, a typical way to resolve the need to do practically useless things and yet stay within the utilitarian philosophy is to say that something which is fun today may be a step to something serious tomorrow, like a business.

I, however, don't find that argument appealing. It again assumes that only something that brings you actual material results deserves to be labeled as "serious", while transforming everything else into building bricks of businesses, careers and money.
But from a certain perspective doing a great personal project, like generating mazes, is not a brick for anything, but a gem in itself. When I look back at projects on which I spent days and days of hard work, like my Galaxies application, knowing very well that it would generate very little interest, I still think that was time well spent. And not because it gave me this or that, but simply because I had a great time doing a fantastic project.

So I think one should not feel ashamed of being attracted to something that carries little utilitarian value. A career can feed you, but only a hobby can make you feel happy.

Zyn Presets library was updated with a few presets.
Robots and Maze

For those who don't know, I am a huge fan of mazes. I have drawn mazes throughout school and even engage in this activity today. Recently I made a breakthrough into the digital realm by starting a web project, dedicated to mazes. Presenting, Robots and Maze, a project about generating mazes and then seeing how robots with various solving algorithms progress through those mazes.

Linux Audio: harmonySEQ. A new era of live sequencing.

While pretentious titles like the one above are generally frowned upon even by the general public, not to mention the software sceptics, residing in the galaxy of Linux Audio, I just couldn't help it. I mean, seriously. We are looking at a piece of software which manages a pretty extraordinary feat: it introduces many original approaches and at the same time doesn't stand between you and making music. Each of those features, as one actively practicing musician has proven (me, that is), adds great flexibility to your live performance. Read on!

A Houseman (aka Louigi Verona) album is coming up!

I am now in the middle of working on an album of acid music, ranging from trance and house to breaks and pop sound, all flavoured with the majestic Nekobee. My ambition is to create the most elaborate electronic music album done on Linux using common apps, as opposed to Pure Data and such.

Allow me to present a single from this album entitled Elementary Waves, which should give some indication of how the album might sound.

A unique digital art gallery is opened to visitors!

The reason I am calling this gallery "unique" is because all these paintings were made specifically to be displayed on the web, as opposed to some galleries which do appear online, but are mere previews of things you should see in person in a museum.

Do not be confused by the amount of work that is so confidently and, I must say, so bluntly placed upon your imagination - practice and persistence have always been guiding lights in recognizing genius even in its most intricate forms and as a reward have given aesthetic pleasure beyond anything one can expect.
